Learning outcomes
Understanding the basic principles of optical communications systems: active and passive components, propagation in optical fibers, fiber amplifiers, receiver principles, wavelength division multiplexing (WDM), time division multiplexing, design of analogue and digital point-to-point links.
Evaluation criteria for the course
The exam and exercises comprise the total grade. Weight of the exam is 80% and the exercises 20%.

No compulsory course pre-requirements. Existing knowledge on lasers, optics and wave propagation can help understand some of the concepts introduced on the course.
