Requirements
Sustainable Design Studio is an advanced course suitable for 5th year students, dealing with principles and practices of sustainable planning and architectural design. The student will be employed in given design tasks that require independent work and the capability of integrating complex design issues at different scale levels. The course comprises lectures, studio meetings and a critic session.
Completion parts must belong to the same implementation
Learning outcomes
After the course the student will be able to identify the main features of sustainable expressions in Finnish design and explain the background of sustainability trends. The student will be able to analyze the social, cultural and environmental aspects of sustainability and discuss the principles of sustainable planning and design. During the course, the student will acquire a mature control of the project in different areas of applicability. He/she will develop a personal approach to the sustainability issues and learn to apply and integrate efficiently its principles within a complex design task.

Evaluation criteria for the course
The design project will be evaluated on a 0-5 grading scale. Evaluation criteria take account of: - Conceptual solution - Architectural expression - Relation to the surrounding environment - Factors of sustainability - Functional qualities - Spatial qualities - Construction materials and techniques Attendance to lectures, studio meetings and critiques as well as active participation in the course's activities will affect the final evaluation.

Numerical evaluation scale (1-5) will be used on the course
