Learning outcomes

Getting acquainted with solution methods for static electromagnetic field problems: The student recognizes the classical Poisson boundary value problem and can formulate an electrostatic problem into it. The student recognizes features that make analytical solution of Poisson's problem very difficult. The student can solve point- and line charge problems by method of images in the vicinity of an infinite conducting plane. The student can formulate and solve the equation for magnetic circuit with one loop, coil, permanent magnet, and air gap. The student knows what data must be supplied to a numerical solver in order to solve for the classical Poisson's problem. The student masters essentials of finite difference approximation and norm minimization in a function space.
