CEF: A2-B1 When a course is over-subscribed, i.e. there are more sign-ups than places on the course, then we enrol the required number of students according to the following criteria: 1)students' position at TUT (degree students have priority) 2) the number of 'study points' the students have 3) the time of the sign-up. Students have to be present on the first day of the course to be sure of retaining their place.

Active participation in lectures (75 % attendance), oral presentation, written assignments and successful performance in the final examination.
Completion parts must belong to the same implementation

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, students will learn vocabulary they need in their studies and later in the working life. During the course students will also learn new grammatical structures needed in everyday communication, and they will be able to discuss everyday topics and justify their opinion. In addition, they will be able to write longer coherent texts and give a presentation in Finnish.

Content

1. Vocabulary: Studying and working: a job application and job interview, formal and informal discussions at work and in everyday context. Making phone calls. Expressing and justifying one's opinion.  Pronouns and adverbs.   
2. Speaking: an oral presentation and discussion exercises on the topics of the course.     
3. Listening: listening comprehension exercises.     
4. Reading: Texts on the topics of the course. Partially authentic texts.   Reading strategies.   
5. Writing: an effective CV and an argumentative text.     
6. Grammar: Finnish sentence types, conditional, transitive and intransitive verbs, the genitive case and the local cases in plural.      

Evaluation criteria for the course

Active participation in lectures (75% attendance), assignments, oral presentation and successful performance in the final examination.

Assessment scale:

Numerical evaluation scale (1-5) will be used on the course

Partial passing:

Completion parts must belong to the same implementation
