Course Catalog 2012-2013

TKT-2566 Satellite Navigation Receivers, 5 cr

Additional information

It will begin with a review of GNSS signal structure (with an emphasis on GPS) and the types of raw measurements that a GNSS receiver generates (pseudorange, Doppler, and carrier-phase). Most of the course will then describe how these raw measurements are generated inside the receiver. Topics covered include radio front end downconversion, receiver signal processing (Doppler removal, correlation, signal integration), and loop filter design. Additionally, the course will describe how signal acquisition is accomplished, both in a strong and a weak signal environment.

Learning outcomes

This course is a perfect combination of putting theory into practice. First, we learn the details of satellite navigation receiver technology and its operation. Next, we practically implement a software-based GNSS receiver, including the entire baseband signal processing chain.
