Learning Outcomes
This course provides the basics of health information systems. After this course, student: - Knows definitions, terminology and basic concepts of health information systems, healthcare information systems, eHealth, and consumer health. History of health information systems. - Understands the specifics of health information and knows the basics of health information models. - Can describe typical eHealth applications and their benefits: hospital information systems, EHR, PHR, ePrescription, telemedicine, mHealth, consumer health informatics - Knows the contents and use of electronic patient record and personal health record, and key architectures, and understands the most important interoperability issues. - Knows key concepts of health informatics assessment and current evidence base for eHealth benefits. - Can design basic eHealth implementation project and can detect main barriers for eHealth adoption.

Additional information about prerequisites
For Minor in Health Informatics, it is recommended (but not required) that student has passed course TIE-02200 (Basics of Programming) or OHJ-1150 Ohjelmointi II, or has otherwise acquired similar level knowledge on programming. TLO-11006 Basics of Information and Knowledge Management is also recommended but not required.
This course can be passed without these pre-requisites.
