Course Catalog 2013-2014
KIE-33006 Written Communication in English, 3 cr |
Additional information
There will be 5 two-hour lectures in total spread out through the course. Most of the learning will take place on-line.
When a course is over-subscribed, i.e. there are more sign-ups than places on the course, then we enrol the required number of students according to the sign-up time and target group. Students on the sign-up / waiting list have to be present at the start of the lesson on the first day of the course to be sure of retaining their place.
The old English Language Exam KIE-3210 corresponds to this course with regard to its key content, and is accepted as equivalent to KIE-33006.

Principles and baselines related to teaching and learning
The focus is on professional written communication skills that engineers encounter during their studies and work-life. The tasks and materials are predominantly online-based, with some contact with the teacher for support and feedback. Some implementations of the course will be integrated with bachelor's level study programmes.
Learning Outcomes
After completing the course, the student can produce a range of professionally relevant types of text, e.g. emails, summaries and proposals. They can write clear, coherent, and well-organised text. They can consider audience, purpose and genre-specific conventions in their writing, and select an appropriate register for a given type of context. The student can also use a range of resources to develop their written communication skills independently.
