Learning Outcomes
After completing this course the student knows and understands the basics of X-Ray diffraction. S/he can explain what factors influence the directions of diffracted beams, and s/he understands and can explain quantitatively what factors influence the intensities of the diffracted beams. S/he can describe the basics of most used application techniques, including quantitative and qualitative chemical analysis, texture, residual stress, and small angle x-ray scattering. The student can solve some basic problems typically encountered in material characterization with X-Ray diffraction. The student can also plan tests, analysis, and specimen preparation procedures for solving various simple scientific problems.
