Description:
The aim of the course is to study specific issues related to sustainable renovation of 1960-80s prefabricated apartment blocks and to learn design skills for demanding renovation, refurbishment and transformation of degenerated apartment blocks. The course deals with the environmental effects of refurbishment and repair from the architectural viewpoint. Particular attention is paid to energy and resource conservation. The course covers the history of large-panel suburbs; the current state; emerging challenges and different approaches to addressing the existing building stock.
