Requirements
The course can be completed by passing the final exam. The course can be also passed with the grade 1-3 by completing five homeworks and earning at least 10 point from them as follows: Grade (1): 10-14 pts; Grade (2); 15-18 pts, and Grade (3) : 19 pts. To earn the highest two grades requires to pass the final exam accordingly.
Learning Outcomes
The course gives the basic knowledge on the dynamic description, and modeling of three-phase grid-connected converters in such a way that the student knows the basic terminology, and the control principles, as well as can perform simple control design based on loop-shaping design principles.
Content
Content | Core content | Complementary knowledge | Specialist knowledge |
1. | Basic terminology, PWM modualtion methods, different reference frames | Space-vector modulation
2. | Dynamic modeling in dq coordinates under carrier based PWM modulation | Source and load effects on the dynamics of the converter including impedance-based stability assessment
3. | Application of the dynamic models to control design | Frequency response methods for verifying the design |
Instructions for students on how to achieve the learning outcomes
The course can be passed by completing five homeworks with the grade of 1 - 3 by earning at least 10 pts from them as follows: Grade (1): 10-14 pts, Grade (2): 15-18, and Grade (3): 19 pts. To earn the higher grades 4 and 5 requires to passing the final exam accordingly.
