- International Networks and Sourcing, 4 cr Visiting Professor Alok Chakrabarti Global networks of firms are increasingly becoming important in developing, manufacturing and marketing of products and services. The objective of the course is to provide the basic concepts related to organizational and social networks and their relationship with business in global context. Students will learn about various types of platforms for forming business networks. A ubiquitous product like an iPhone depends on many vendors around the world for its components such as the display, microprocessor, the SIM card, case, and battery. Harnessing this network for smooth operation is the challenge that the Apple executive faces. By using such case examples the course will highlight how to manage these networks when developing and manufacturing such products in practice. The course will promote collective learning process. This will give the participants an experience of collaboration and cooperation. Therefore, students have to be active in class discussions and class presentations. There will be lectures coupled with case discussions and general interactions. The final examination will count for 50% of the weight while 50% weight will be given to class assignments and presentations. Dr. Alok Chakrabarti has made a long, prestigious academic career in finest academic institutions in US and is known for his groundbreaking work in technology management and organizational behavior. He has worked as a professor, for example, in Drexel University, MIT and New Jersey Institute of Technology where he has served as the Founding Dean of the School of Management until his retirement. The International Association of Management and Technology has recognized him as the best researcher. His research and teaching interests today focus on strategic management of technology and management of health care services.
