Learning Outcomes
After finishing the course, the student is able to explain principles of paper and paperboard making processes and name the different stages of these processes. By understanding the basic phenomenon during paper and paperboard making, the student is able to perceive these production processes as a whole including e.g. environmental effects and energy efficiency of the processes. The student is also able to evaluate the properties of paper and paperboards that are important in further converting processes of these materials.
Content
Content | Core content | Complementary knowledge | Specialist knowledge |
1. | The student is able to describe paper and paperboard making process steps as whole from raw materials to final products. | The student can explain the properties of paper and paperboard that are important in following converting processes and how these properties can be controlled during making of paper/board. | The student is able to estimate which kind of effects different sub processes of paper/board making have on the properties of final product. |
Instructions for students on how to achieve the learning outcomes
The final grade will be based on a final exam that will measure the students knowledge on paper and paperboard making. With good knowledge about the core content of the course the student can pass the course with grade 3. If the student demonstrates good understanding of the core content he or she may pass the course with the grade 3. In order to achieve higher grade, the student should demonstrate competency in the points specified as complementary knowledge and specialist knowledge.
Assessment scale:
Numerical evaluation scale (1-5) will be used on the course
