Master's Degree Programme in Public Economics and Public Finance

MGE - European Master in Public Economics and Public Finance is a high-quality Master level programme that offers a joint degree in the partner universities. The partner universities are the University of Rennes1 (France), the University of Fribourg (Switzerland) and the University of Tampere (Finland). The MGE programme aims at offering a co-ordinated package of complementary master courses in the partner universities, creating a European network of professional and academic expertise, providing excellent career prospects and capabilities for doctoral studies, and fostering serious research in the field of public economics and public finance in the European context. The programme is based on a compulsory skeleton of economic theory and methods, lectured identically in all partner universities. In addition, the partners offer an abundant selection of optional courses in public economics and public finance. The main idea of the programme is to make the expertise of the partners a common resource to the mobile students thus enabling deeper specialization of both the students and the teachers. The teaching is given in English and in the native languages of the partner universities (Finnish, French and German). During the programme, the students study for one semester in one of the partner universities.

An advisable time-table of studies is the following: The first year should be spent in the home university taking compulsory courses in Economic Theory and Methods, and some special courses in Public Economics and Finance. The second year, or at least one semester of it, should be spent in exchange taking more special courses and optional courses, and writing the Master’s Thesis. The optimal duration of the program is two academic years.
