Introduction to the School of Modern Languages and Translation Studies:
The School offers nine major subject options: English Philology, Finnish Language, French Language, German Language and Culture, Nordic Languages, Russian Language and Culture, and Translation Studies in English, German and Russian. Minor subjects include Czech Language, Estonian Language and Culture, General Linguistics, Phonetics, Polish Language, Spanish Language, Translation Studies in Swedish, and the FAST Area Studies and Russian Studies Programme.

In 2008 the School of Modern Languages and Translation Studies had some 2 000 degree students and 70 full-time teachers, including 14 professors, and a total staff of 78.

The School has extensive international contacts, including bilateral LLP/Erasmus agreements with over 70 European universities. In 2008 there were some 100 exchange students studying at the School of Modern Languages and Translation Studies, and at the same time some 80 degree students of the School were studying abroad.
