The Department of Social Work Research is for studying social work, youth work and other youth issues and social pedagogy and for doing research on these subjects.

Social work is offered as a major subject in which it is possible to take the Bachelor's and Master's degrees and also postgraduate studies. Postgraduates have the choice of scientific doctoral training or more professionally oriented specialization (known as the licentiate's professional degree). In youth work and youth research and in social pedagogy courses at the basic and intermediate levels are available.

This basic function connects the subject closely to societal interaction with regard to both education and research. The Department is an expert organization for which there is demand for education and research on the local, national and even on the international level.

The Department has a personnel of 40: teachers of social work, of youth research and youth work and also of social pedagogy, researchers and administrative personnel. Another important group in the departmental community is the undergraduates and postgraduates.  Every year the Department produces 40 master's degrees, 2 licentiates and 2 doctoral degrees.
