After the Kick-start studies the student is familiar with the structure of most important biomolecules and knows the basic metabolic routes. She/he has elementary knowledge of molecular genetics and how the genetic information is utilized (transcription and translation). In addition, the student knows the basic molecular biology methods. In the area of cell biology and tissue technology the student understands how cellular structures and cellular functions are interrelated with each other, and the student is familiar with the basic cell culture techniques. In the area of bioinformatics the student knows how to search data from databases and the basic idea of analyzing high throughput sequencing data. The student knows how to apply basic statistical tests and some basic operations in programming.
Elementary theoretical knowledge in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology and tissue technology, programming, statistics and bioinformatics. Safety training for laboratory work.
Each section of online exercises needs to be passed separately.
At least the sections that are required background for the specialization of interest in the M.Sc. degree have to be completed at the latest during the orientation week. The remaining sections can be completed during the fall semester.
