After successful completion of the course students have deepened their understanding of nationalism as a societal phenomenon, through discussions on empirical case studies of cutting-edge research.

THE LECTURE PART, NATIONALISM I, WILL BE ORGANIZED AS SCHEDULED.

The Nationalism II course is a continuation of the Nationalism I course (5 ECTS), which has familiarized students with some key nationalism theories, and provided insight in specific cases. During the Nationalism II course students will deepen their understanding of the phenomenon through empirical case studies of cutting-edge research. For each session students are expected to acquaint themselves with 1-2 selected research articles that will be discussed in the session. Each participating student is also obligated to introduce one of the selected texts during the course.

Seminars will be held on Mondays and Wednesday at 14-16 (see the break below) either in Tampere or in Helsinki. Students are required to be present in each session (no broadcasted seminar sessions as in Nationalism II). Please note that students need to pay their travel expenses (train/bus) to Helsinki by themselves.

Introductions and writing assignments based on the course material. Unlike in the course Nationalism I, active participation in each session is mandatory.

Extensive reading list (will be announced later).
