General description

The course examines the ways in which multimodality affects the translator's work and discusses the impacts of image, word, and sound in different contexts of translation. The course covers various types of multimodal translation, such as audiovisual translation, audio description, and the translation of different types of illustrated texts.

The course meets entirely online. Each week’s study materials will be posted online on Mondays. The students are expected to hand in their weekly assignments by Wednesday afternoon. The study materials will be produced by a different teacher each week, and the nature of the weekly assignments will vary according to the preferences of each teacher.

The online platform on which the course will be organized is a closed Google Community group. Participation on the course therefore requires an internet connection and a Google user account; however, the responsible teacher can assist in creating the account if necessary. The course does not require previous experience with Google Community. The language of instruction of the course is English. The course is open for all students in Multilingual Communication and Translation Studies as well as exchange students.
