After completing the course unit the student is able to understand different forms of political participation ranging from traditional electoral participation to new non-institutionalised forms of participation. They understand the societal importance of different modes of participation in Finland and in other democracies, and are able to evaluate the challenges that the political participation is currently facing. The student also has a strong basic knowledge of different electoral systems and party systems.
