Students gain understanding about how children and young people?s lives are inherently connected to politics. Through particular case studies students learn to critically evaluate ways in which politics shapes notions of childhood and youth, and operates in children and young people?s everyday lives. Students develop pedagogies and learn practical ways to ensure that children?s rights are upheld in preschools and schools and to enable children and young people?s democratic participation in decisions important for them.
Students in this course explore relationships between children, young people and politics. Politics and policies shape in explicit and covert ways notions of childhood, youth and education, and children and young people’s everyday lives and actions in preschools and schools. Curriculum and pedagogy are powerful avenues for political socialisation and citizen formation. Preschools and schools are mandated to implement children rights and participation in practical ways, which is possible through seeking their views, acting on what is heard and creating meaningful avenues for children and young people’s democratic participation.
Maximum 30 students.
The course assignments will be applied according the level of studies (Bachelor/Master).
