School of Social Sciences (ISSS)
Language Studies on bachelor’s and master’s programmes taught in English

1. Those students studying on ISSS bachelor’s programmes taught in English having received their school education in Finnish will take the language studies prescribed for the degree of Bachelor of Social Sciences, but in place of text comprehension studies they will take Introduction to Academic Writing (3 ECTS).

2. Those on ISSS bachelor’s programmes having as their mother tongue a language other than English will take a total of 9 ECTS studies appropriate to their degree programmes, for example some of the following studies in English (CEFR levels B1-C1):

* Introduction to Seminar Skills (3 ECTS)
* Introduction to Academic Writing (3 ECTS)
* Introduction to Thesis Writing (3 ECTS)
* English Oral Skills for social scientists (3 ECTS)

3. Those studying on ISSS bachelor’s programmes whose mother tongue is English will take a total of 9 ECTS Language Studies as follows:

* 3-6 ECTS of the aforementioned studies in English AND
* 3-6 ECTS in Spanish, Italian, French, German or Russian or, with the consent of the Dean of the Faculty, studies in some other foreign language (CEFR level B1-B2)
OR
* 6 ECTS of relevant studies in English and 3 ECTS of Finnish as a Foreign Language

4. Those studying on ISSS master’s programmes taught in English will take Introduction to Thesis Writing (3 ECTS)
