Finnish as a Foreign Language Programme, 28–34 ECTS

Content

The basic extent of the Finnish as a Foreign Language Programme is 28 credits, but a student can extend it to 30–34 credits by completing one or both of the Multicultural Group Work Courses 1–2 and the Advanced Level Writing Course. A student can also choose individual courses without completing the whole programme. The courses in the programme are primarily aimed at degree students, but also exchange students will be accepted if space permits. Priority will then be given to those exchange students who are going to study for the whole academic year in the University of Tampere.

After successful completion of the elementary level courses students will be able to use and understand Finnish in everyday life situations and to give and understand accounts of themselves, their families, studies, hobbies and other similar topics.

After successful completion of the advanced level courses students will be able to communicate both orally and in written form about various matters with familiar themes. With the help of a dictionary, students will also be able without much difficulty to read texts comparable to standard newspaper language.

The general aim of the studies is that the students have a positive attitude both to their language studies and to themselves as language learners and that they know how they can further develop their language skills.
