Language studies are different depending on the students' educational background. International students take Finnish and English. Students with a school education in Finnish take English and possibly also Swedish.

English language studies 3-7 ECTS
– English language assesment test (not required from students with UTA/SIS Bachelor's degree)
– English language studies 3-7 ECTS (according to the assessment test). All programme students are to take Introduction to Thesis Writing 3 ECTS. Another course unit in English (Introduction to Academic English 4 ECTS) must be taken if the test result shows it to be necessary. These 4 ECTS from Introduction to Academic English cannot be included in the 120 ECTS credits of programme studies.

Finnish language studies, a minimum of 6 ECTS
(not required from students with UTA/SIS Bachelor's degree or students who have taken their school education in Finnish)

Swedish language studies (only those students who have taken their school education in Finnish) 4 ECTS
- Finnish students who have not taken Swedish language studies in their Bachelor’s degree are required to take Ruotsin kielen kirjallinen ja suullinen viestintä 4 op
