European studies, 15–115 ECTS

Learning outcomes

The European studies minor programme has a conscious multidisciplinary orientation wherein the study programme consists of units in the social sciences; the humanities; and legal, regional and administrative studies. The study programme also allows the student to further specialise in any of these three wide areas. At the same time the programme enables conducting multilingual studies in the English, French, German and Swedish languages alongside Finnish.

The programme consists of study units containing both book exams and contact teaching in the form of lectures, seminars and workshops. Some book exams can be compensated by taking part in courses that are arranged regularly or which may vary from term to term. Study units are offered in the areas of European politics and European societies; European history, and European culture and languages; and legal, regional and administrative studies. The Jean Monnet Centre is responsible for the planning of the programme and the department of Political Science and International Relations for the coordination of the programme, including provision of the final marking for the completion of the programme.

In order to complete the programme the student has to compile at least 15 ECTS of obligatory studies. On top of that optional studies offer several alternatives for deepening and widening knowledge on various aspects of Europe.
