KKRU20P SWEDISH ORAL AND WRITTEN COMMUNICATION-JOURNALISM 3 ECTS

Preceding studies
A2-B1 language proficiency level on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. To achieve the required starting level, it is recommended that students participate in a preparatory course. Language skills can be tested in a written exam.

General description

This course is in accordance with the Finnish legislation Act 424/2003 on the knowledge of languages required of personnel in public bodies, Act 481/2003 on demonstrated proficiency in the Swedish and Finnish languages, and with Decree 794/2004 on university degrees.

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students will be able to communicate appropriately in tasks in working and social life. Students will
- understand general texts related to their own special field
- be able to produce clear and coherent texts with wide general vocabulary, special-field terminology and structures
- be able to describe, summarise and explain both orally and in writing the phenomena of their own field, and express and justify their opinions using mostly correct structures
- be able to actively participate in conversations, understand standard Swedish related to their own field, and carry out an interview in Swedish
- be able to use linguistic tools and aids and Swedish sources of information for their own purposes

Contents

During this course, students will go through issues of their own fields both orally and in writing, expand their general vocabulary, and become familiar with the terminology of their own special field. They will
- retrieve information from written and oral sources
- write texts related to communication situations in studies and working life
- practise oral communication (telephone conversations, advice, descriptions, summarising, etc.) and carry out an interview
- practise the use of linguistic tools and aids
- revise the central structures of grammar

Evaluation and evaluation criteria

Numeric 1-5.
Evaluation by active participation. There will be an oral examination at the end of the course. Evaluation of written communication is based on epicrises written during the course and/or a written final examination. Swedish oral and written skills will be marked separately on the degree certificate on a scale satisfactory or good (1-3 satisfactory, 4-5 good).
