At the conclusion of this course, students will have achieved the following learning outcomes: - Understand the essentials of visual methods in social and educational sciences - Know how collect different visual (photos, drawings, video etc.) data in the research - Understand the essentials of visual methods in the approaches that involve researcher collected data, participatory research, image based interviewing and multimodal analysis - Know how to organise and analyse the data - Develop practical skills by completing small-scale micro research during the course.
Contents
The course offers practical perspectives in conducting a research project by using visual methods and is integrated to the students' own project for the master's thesis. Students develop critical understandings about characteristic challenges and advantages of the various research tools and techniques, which they reflect in a selected framework of study and perspectives on validity and ethics.
