Preceding studies
Level A English in upper secondary school, or equivalent skills (B1-B2 level of language competence). To achieve the required starting level, students may, for example, take an English prep course.
After completing this study module, students will - understand factual and scientific texts of a general nature as well as texts of their own field - to some extent be able to produce factual texts These skills will help students in their studies and later in following their own field and improving professional international communication.
Contents
During this course, students will - recognise the structure of academic text and the functions of its parts - know how to utilise text structure and the clue words indicating semantic relations - recognise and interpret the structures that are essential to understanding texts - master terminology that is both universally scientific and essential to their own field - become familiar with the meanings of prefixes and suffixes - to some extent be able to produce outlined texts and use the terminology that they have learned during the course in different situations

Further information
At the beginning of the semester, an optional test of written skills will be organised for students who already possess the language skills this course aims at. Those who pass the test will be exempted from the written skills course.
