Learning outcomes

The aim of the module is to improve the students' confidence to communicate in the practical situations they will encounter in professional life using different modes of expression.

After successful completion of the module, the students will be able to
- communicate using different channels of communication (e.g. telephone, e-mail, business letters)
- write their own CV
- ask for and give information in an interview situation
- present information in numerical form
- give instructions
- give an informative presentation on a business-related topic
- present and explain trends represented in visual form

Contents

The module will go through
- the culture and structure of telephone conversations
- giving and asking for information in order to fill in a form, including spelling out words and saying various figures
- the structure and language of a CV
- the structure and language of different types of business letters
- the conventions applying to the writing of e-mail messages
- the giving of instructions, especially directions
- the presentation of charts and graphs
- the principles and practice of oral presentations

For students studying towards a Bachelor's degree in economics.

This module is made up of class sessions involving pair and small group work and also out-of-class tasks. Each student is expected to read the necessary preparatory material on Moodle before each class.
