To acquire the basic facilities for social scientific development of knowledge: independent information retrieval and analysis and production of scientific text. To learn methodological basics and practice their practical application. To familiarise oneself with ways to produce academic speech and text and acquire instruments for studies.
Contents
Academic writing, presentation and argumentation are focal points of this course.
Further information on prerequisites and recommendations
The faculty general studies course Topical Questions in Social Science (3 ECTS) must be completed before this course, and Introduction to Scientific Thinking (3 ECTS) and Theory and Practice in Social Sciences (5 ECTS) must be taken simultaneously with it. In addition, it is recommended that students have completed Information Acquisition I (2 ECTS) and Information Technology (3 ECTS).
Modes of study
Major students participate actively in the seminar (48h), retrieve information independently and produce projects with the help of complementary literature, present their projects and act as opponents to each other. Minor students complete this course with a literature examination.

This course is realised together with the faculties of Sociology, Social Policy and Social Work. If students complete the basic studies in at least two of the afore-mentioned subjects, they are also expected to complete 5 ECTS credits of other studies of similar level, as agreed individually with the minor subject professor.
