Learning outcomes

To introduce students to linguistic theories in semantics.

Contents

The basics of semiotics, the concept of a linguistic sign or symbol, the central semantic theories, the basics of word, sentence and text semantics, speech act theory and pragmatics. Emphasis on word semantics, such as componential analysis and word field theory.

Modes of study

Lectures, homework and a final exam. Alternatively a book exam.

Evaluation and evaluation criteria

Numeric 1-5.
Evaluation by participation, homework and final exam, or alternatively by book exam.
