General description

Lectures on financial instruments (6 hours) will be contracted through the School of Management. Lectures from media managers involved with financial planning and accounting will be contracted from Finnish media industries (8 hours). Students will be assigned readings and practical exercises (10 hours).

Learning outcomes

Students will learn the principles and requirements for successfully managing the economy of a media firm as an interdependent developmental process linking financial planning, budgeting and controlling.

Contents

After completing the course the student will understand:

*Understanding the budget a tool for strategy design and implementation
*The budgeting process
*Financial instruments (spreadsheets, accounts, etc)
*The role and functions of financial controlling
*Strategic thinking and decision-making as financially dependent tasks
*Change management in the context of firm economy

Evaluation and evaluation criteria

Numeric 1-5.
Class attendance (1 ECTS), practical assignment results (2 ECTS), and exam on readings (2 ECTS).
