To familiarise students with the problems of literary translation and to combine translation theory and practice in demanding literary translation assignments. To hone students’ Finnish skills and to develop linguistic sensitivity and precise reading and writing skills.

Contents

Producing two publishable, literary translations, a short story and a poem, together with commentaries.

Evaluation and evaluation criteria

Numeric 1-5.
Grade based on translations and commentaries.

Further information

This course is a part of the Module on Literary Translation (14 ECTS). The Module on Literary Translation gives students the opportunity to specialise in literary translation and the study of literary translation in their Advanced Studies. It is not obligatory to complete all the courses of the Module; students can also take individual courses of choice.
