Learning outcomes

To master the basics of Latin and to be able to produce written Latin texts. To become familiar with Latin literature and the principles of academic research work.

Contents

A series of lectures, 56h, with a final examination or a book exam for which students read approximately 40-50 pages of Latin prose and approximately 800-900 verses of Latin poetry (a selection of texts mostly from Pekkanen's Ramus virens) (3 ECTS), and a selection of the following texts, for example: Versio vulgata, the gospel according to Matthew or Luke (2 ECTS); Marcusson - Norberg, Med lärde på latin (1,5 ECTS); Svennung, Från senantik och medeltid, approximately 50 pages (3 ECTS); Bureus, Orbis Arctoi descriptio (with comments by T. Pekkanen) (1,5 ECTS); Juslenius, Aboa vetus et nova (with comments by T. Pekkanen and V. Seppälä Pekkanen) (1,5 ECTS), Vindiciae Fennorum (with comments by J. Sarsila) (1,5 ECTS) or De Miseriis Finnorum (with comments by J. Sarsila) (1 ECTS).
