To become familiar with the psychological assessment process: the methods used, their criteria, interpreting results and making statements.
Contents
The first period of the course introduces students to the most important methods and tests used in Finland to assess children psychologically by using actual client cases as a basis. Students also practice psychological assessment by carrying out at least one authentic psychological examination and/or an analysis and a report of a problematic situation. The second period focuses on the mental state of the working aged people and on assessing their working capacities.
Teaching methods
Lectures (27h), exercises and guidance at work (26h), guided examination of own clients and writing a statement, educational visits (3x2h) and a book exam.

Modes of study
Active participation in lectures and practice classes, and completed homework. Lectures and related literature will be tested in an examination organised during the course. Articles and literature distributed during practice classes, such as test handbooks, will be tested in accordance with the instructions given by the teacher in charge of the course. In connection with this course, students also complete the course "Mitä nuoren psykologin tulee tietää" ("What a young psychologist should know"; lectures 16h) offered in collaboration by psychology departments.
