Learning outcomes

To introduce students to new English literatures, cultural encounters and special areas of multiculturalism. To further improve academic, theory-based reading

Contents

An introduction to anglophone literatures of Africa, Australia, Canada, the Caribbean, and India in their historical, cultural and social contexts, with an emphasis on the notions of “Colonial” and “Postcolonial”.

Modes of study

Classes include lectures and follow-up tutorials, with small-group work based on the study materials. Regular attendance is required.

Evaluation and evaluation criteria

Numeric 1-5.
On the basis of the essay or exam, and class participation.

Study materials

A selection of texts plus one novel or play.
