KKSA1A2 BEGINNERS' GERMAN COURSE II 3 ECTS

Beginners' German Course I or equivalent skills (A1 language proficiency level).

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students will
- understand and be able to use everyday expressions and basic vocabulary, such as numbers, amounts, prices and time
- be able to communicate in ordinary situations, such as giving directions and describing feelings, illnesses or accidents
- be able to administer tasks and requests
- be able to answer questions and ask similar questions themselves, for instance about studying, holidays, family, occupation and hobbies
- be able to write an invitation or some other message
- be able to present justifications for approving or abandoning an idea
- be able to shop and express shopping preferences
- understand the main contents of a newspaper article concerning a familiar topic
- be familiar with the basics of the German grammar
- be familiar with the culture of the German-speaking countries

Contents

There will be plenty of listening and speaking exercises in pairs and groups. The social interaction of language usage is practised through exercises emphasising the dialogic character of language. Text comprehension, vocabulary and linguistic structures, such as the present perfect tense and the use of modal auxiliary verbs, personal pronouns and prepositions as well as imperatives, will be practised with a coursebook and Finnish material on vocabulary and grammar, compiled separately by the teacher. In addition, there will be plenty of online exercises available for independent study.

Evaluation and evaluation criteria

Numeric 1-5.
Evaluation by written final examination and regular and active participation in class. Through vocabulary and structure tests, students will be able to keep track of their own learning. The teacher will give them immediate feedback during the course on progress they have been making in pronunciation, dialogue, vocabulary, structure and writing skills.
