General description

The course gives an introduction to public health infrastructure and the contemporary public health challenges and reforms in India.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course the students will
- be acquainted with the functioning of a health-care system in the developing world
- be familiarized with the contemporary global health challenges in a low- and middle-income setting
- be able to critically appraise the multi-facetted health system in India
- explore and identify possible research areas for future studies in the field
- identify possible internship opportunities

Contents

The course will give a brief practical oriented views about the health system in a developing country. It will cover topics related to the primary health care system, levels of healthcare, rural health care and governmental health schemes in India. This course also has a session on road traffic accidents which has emerged as the new public health challenge of the 21st century. The course will finally conclude with a comparative reflections on the basis of diary notes with interesting deliberation.
