General description

An introduction to the social context of ageing.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course the student
- has acquired substantial knowledge about foundations, history and mainstream theories of social gerontology
- understands the function of social networks in ageing adults
- has practised critical thinking and scientific reasoning
- can debate on different viewpoints and defend scientific arguments
- is able to apply scientific knowledge to societal practice

- Classical and current perspectives of interpreting ageing
- Social networks and social integration
- Loneliness as a consequence of social unconnectedness

Attendance is for students of Master of Health Science, students of Finnish master´s studies and post-graduate students.
