Learning outcomes

The student will have gained knowledge about information processing models in relation to violence and aggression, developmental changes, and the integration of emotions and aggression motivation. The student will also come to appreciate how theory can be put into practice through a range of therapeutic techniques. Additional topics include normative beliefs, accessing emotional memory, elaborative rehearsal, and life maps as they relate to understanding violence and aggression.

Contents

The aim of the course is to ensure that students are provided with the core underpinnings of aggression theory, which can be incorporated into clinical practice via a range of therapeutic techniques. The principles taught will be applicable both to the treatment of habitual aggression and also to its assessment.
