General description
Students will widen and deepen their knowledge of business English so that they are able to communicate effectively in working life.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course students are expected to: be able to read critically texts relating to a wide range of business activities as well as academic texts in their fields; be able to write texts of a general nature relating to business as well as texts relating to specific company functions; be familiar with the conventions of business correspondence and be able write business letters in good English; be able to participate actively and constructively in meetings and negotiations in which problems are solved and agreements are made; be able to perform well in a job interview; be able to give a well structured presentation of a demanding subject taking into consideration the needs and expectations of an international audience.
Contents
Reading texts dealing with different aspects of business and the economy; terminology exercises; practice in writing summaries, reports and business letters; preparing and holding meetings, negotiations and job interviews; preparing and giving a presentation.
