Modes of study

The proseminar project is a small study through which students practice framing of questions, source critique and interpretation of the study of history, as well as academic writing typical to the study of history.

The proseminar lasts for three periods. After this the students majoring in History will proceed to the fourth period and produce a BA thesis.

The BA thesis is, as a rule, a scientific study written based on the feedback received from the proseminar project.

The BA thesis is evaluated on the scale of 1-5, and in connection with it, students take a maturity test, which is a part of a Bachelor's degree. A maturity test is an essay of approximately four pages, written based on the BA thesis, and it is evaluated especially by professional and fluent expressions and correct language. Students who have started their studies before August first, 2005, may take their maturity test in connection with their Master's theses.

Students taking the maturity test should give their proseminar instructor two copies of their BA theses and sign up for the maturity test on the faculty examination day.

Evaluation

Numeric 1-5.
