Learning outcomes

To master the basics of classical poetical Latin.

Contents

Students choose a selection of the following texts and read them using comments and translations: Virgil, Georgica, one book (with comments by T. Oksala, and the entire book translated into Finnish) (1,5 ECTS); Aeneid, e.g. the 6th book (2 ECTS); Horatius, Ars poetica (with comments by T. Oksala and E. Palmén) (1,5 ECTS); a selection of odes (with comments by T. Oksala and E. Palmen) (2 ECTS); Catullus, Liber carminum (3 ECTS); Lucretius, one book (2 ECTS); approximately 500 verses of satire by Horatio or Juvenal or epigrams by Martial (1 ECTS); approximately 500 verses of Roman elegies (Propertius, Tibullus, Ovid) (1 ECTS)
