Learning outcomes

To analyse Finnish phonology and morphology and to become familiar with prosodic phonology.

Contents

An introduction to Finnish phonology and morphology. During this course, students become familiar with the following subjects: the phoneme paradigm of the Finnish language and issues of phonotaxis, morpheme types, word stem variants and morphotaxis, classification of nouns and verbs according to their inflectional types, different inflectional categories, the most important morphophonological variations, ways of derivations and derivative types.

A written mid-course exam and a written final examination.

Evaluation by written mid-course exam, final examination, exercises and literary discussions.
