To establish an interface between the discipline of International Relations and the multidisciplinary field of study called Russian and East European studies, to learn about presumptions that guide different frameworks of analysis through which Russia has been approached within IR scholarship (e.g. sovietology, traditionalism, or transitology).

Introductory lectures on a) the academic division of labour between International Relations and the branch of Area Studies called Russian and East European Studies, b) historical and political context for the establishment of the field of study called Russian and East European Studies, c) the challenge of Russia for the established IR theories and methods 2. Lectures by visiting lecturers working at the interfaces of International Relations and Russian and East European Studies OR a reading seminar
