Learning outcomes

To establish an interface between the discipline of International Relations and the multidisciplinary field of a study called Russian Studies, learn about presumptions guiding different frameworks of analysis through which Russia has been approached within IR scholarship (e.g. sovietology, traditionalism, or transitology).

Contents

The role of Russia/Soviet Union within the discipline of International Relations, historical and political context for the establishment of the field of study called Russian Studies, "area studies controversy" in International Relations, the challenge of Russia for the established IR theories and methods.
