Learning outcomes

Students without extensive management experience will practice managing media to develop skills and insights in the context of UTAIN, Radio Moreeni and UTA television. Students with extensive management experience will provide lectures and serve as mentors.

Contents

After completing the course the student will understand:

• Practical dynamics of change management and diversity management
• Decision-making in management processes
• Strategic thinking in an applied setting
• Similarities and differences in the management of various kinds of media

Teaching methods

Lectures (10 hours), readings, and guided practice in media management work.

Modes of study

A practicum at the UTAIN campus newspaper, Radio Moreeni and/or Campus TV supplemented with readings and lectures. (For more information about the media outlets visit: http://www.uta.fi/laitokset/tiedotus/).

Evaluation and evaluation criteria

Numeric 1-5.
Supervisor evaluation of results both for practitioners and lecturers, and an essay about the experience and incorporating relevant material from the readings.
