Social Work
Person in charge
lecturer (social law) Irmeli Salomaa

General description

Compulsory for all major students.

Learning outcomes

The objective is for students to analyse and understand the norms which judicially regulate the civic social welfare and its effects where clients are concerned. The objective of legal case exercises is to practice using decree texts (Code of Laws) and other legal sources at least in theory and to learn how to apply the legislation to solving a concrete situation.

Contents

The first period consists of a brief introduction to legal thinking through for example legal terminology. A more comprehensive look into the essential general features and contents of social welfare law (family law).
The second period focuses on civic social welfare law, especially from a client's viewpoint as a regulator of his/her position and legal protection, and from an authority figure's/social worker's viewpoint as a regulator of procedural methods when making administrative decisions.
