General description

The course is organised jointly by the universities of Oslo, Tampere and Aveiro. The course consists of two thesis proposal seminars, one at the end of the second semester in Tampere and a second in the third semester in Aveiro.

Learning outcomes

The course is designed to teach the students how to write a research proposal as a basis for their Master thesis work. Students will present their thesis proposal in class and comment on each others proposals. The students should: learn how to write a research proposal, see the relationship between methodology and research topic / questions / objectives, know how to formulate problem statements and research questions - learn how to develop a theoretical framework

Contents

Students will be required to write a thesis research proposal approximately and present at the first research proposal seminar at the end of the second semester. Feedback on the thesis proposal will provide students with a platform to adjust/improve upon the proposal, elaborate on the proposal and formulate a research outline. In the second thesis proposal seminar, held in the third semester, students will present the elaborated proposal and research outline. Supervisors are assigned to students based on the topic of the proposal and initial discussions for the thesis work in the fourth semester should begin.
