General description

The course is intended for graduate students doing implementation oriented research. The course helps in learning research skills while doing research. It is intended for students already involved in research and is implemented as individual planning, reflection, and reporting. The number of credit points awarded depends on the breadth of the research project.

Learning outcomes

After the course a student can better manage implementation oriented sub-projects in the HCI research context and focus on problems that are crucial regarding the research questions under investigation.

Contents

Writing a plan, carrying out original research, writing a report.

The course is primarily intended for doctoral students. However, it may also be suitable for M.Sc. students involved in research projects.

Teaching methods

The work to do for the course depends on the student's project. The schedule, amount of work, and forms of work are agreed upon in the beginning with each student individually.

English or Finnish is used depending on the student's language skills.

Evaluation and evaluation criteria

Pass/fail.
Quality of the plan, success in implementing the plan, quality of the report are evaluated.
