After completing the course, the doctoral student is familiar with the organisation of doctoral studies at the University of Tampere, the structure of her/his own degree, the supervisory process and the rights and responsibilities of doctoral students. S/he knows how to use the support services offered to doctoral students and how to plan her/his doctoral studies systematically and realistically right from the start and to seek for the information and advice s/he needs in the studies. The doctoral student understands the different stages and practices of conducting research towards a doctoral thesis and knows about the most significant funding opportunities. S/he understands the skillset and job opportunities afforded by the doctoral degree and wants to develop her/his transferable skills in a sustained manner.
Contents
The course is especially intended for new doctoral students. The course offers basic information on how doctoral studies are organised at the University of Tampere as well as the ways in which they are offered and what they include. Information on funding opportunities, the most central support services and designing one’s studies is also offered in the course.
